Cocoa Butter
Albania Australia Bulgaria Dominican Republic Ghana Madagascar Namibia Nepal Papua New Guinea Rwanda Somalia South AfricaThe Dominican Republic produces around 43,000 tonnes of Cocoa beans, and uniquely, virtually the whole of the country's crop is both Organic and Fair Trade certified!
From a social standpoint, over 40,000 Dominican households depend directly on cocoa and over 35,000 individuals depend indirectly on its cultivation and commercialisation. The cocoa industry generates rural employment and reduces migration from rural areas to cities.
The Cocoa producers had very little knowledge in sustainable farming before CONACADO's involvement, and were making very little profit on the Cocoa they produced, forcing them to travel to cities to work as labourers to be able to earn a wage.
Cocoa producers commercialise their products as a whole and directly, without intermediates. So instead of delivering to exporters, they deliver directly to the CONACADO group.
At the end of the harvest season, the growers now receive more than 90% of the global market price as opposed to less than 40% they received when selling to exporters. We are proud to obtain our Cocoa Butter through CONACADO, and we thank our customers in helping us to support this fantastic programme.
