S&D Aroma Ltd works directly with producers of essential oils, vegetable oils, hydrolats (floral waters),
butters and waxes to supply manufacturers of Personal Care, Aromatherapy, Food Flavour Ingredients
and Healthcare products. In April 2011, S&D Aroma Ltd joined the Azelis Group.
We have successfully gained many certifications and built up honest and solid relationships
with many producers, as well as customers, around the world. Our ethos at S&D Aroma Ltd is to trade
fairly with our producers; respect their achievements and traditional knowledge, ensure reasonable
working practices, enable diversity and progression, and safe guard the potential of the environment
for future generations.
Through this shared philosophy with our producers, we are able to ensure that we help them to secure
a bright future by assessing each farming community separately and helping with their individual needs.
For the manufacturer this ensures the purest quality of ingredient with no traders or middle men, and
thus we can offer competitive costs along with quality.
S&D Aroma Ltd is proud to be fairly traded, where standards are constantly checked and
encompassed in our work with various certifying organisations which work within local and international
legislations, such as set by the United Nations. Where we strongly support the work of environmental
and social certifying bodies, we work with many different organisations due to the fact that each farmer,
each project, each community and each country is different to the next one.
What is applicable and advantageous to an Aboriginal tribe in Australia may not be workable or feasible
to a farmer in Bulgaria, or a co-operative in the Dominican Republic.
For example, some International Fair Trade certifying agencies in recent years have seen their logos
rise to be seen as marking fairness and equality in the UK. However some Fair Trade standards are only
applied to the Southern Hemisphere poorer countries and to farmers that are organised into a larger
co-operative. Many producers would not be suitable against certain strict "Fair Trade" criteria, such as in
the poorer areas of Southern Europe. One size does not fit all, meaning that what works for in Ivory
Coast, doesn't work in South Africa owing to cultural differences.
The way that we can ensure that the producers still receive a fair price for their crops and labour
without having the Fairtrade logo, is by working with a variety of Organic certifying bodies that are all
monitored under the IFOAM (International Federation of Organic Agriculture Movements) umbrella.
S&D Aroma Ltd is proud to also support certifications such as the Indigenous Certification, and the
Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) also known as the Rainforest Alliance. The FSC, like IFOAM, also
encapsulates standards that are socially and environmentally responsible, another safe check that we
are working within to achieve a fair and sustainable goal.
